Just like any other job, being an educator can be a difficult job at times. This is especially true when you have homework and exams to grade as well as planning every day curriculums. Other than becoming an educator, obtaining classroom experience in your specialty could be the determining factor of whether you leave with an offer or not.
However, you are able to incorporate experience from other positions that you’ve held. No matter how you do it, it all boils down to having a Master of Arts in education. The degree can vary in specialties if teaching in high school is your plan, but teaching at the University level does not require you to have one.

University Level Teaching
Although we said that teaching at the university level did not require a master’s degree in education, it is a requirement if you are interested in obtaining tenure and becoming a professor. Having tenure is a great thing and ensures job security and the position can only be eliminated through extraordinary circumstances such as budget cuts or discontinuation of a curriculum.
Business Trainer
If you prefer to teach an older population who already has their feet planted firmly in a career, then a job as a corporate or business trainer would be the way to go. By implementing the experience you’ve gained in education, you will be able to easily transition into this role. You also have options for the type of employment you want too. You can either work independently for yourself or with a business. To be successful, the trainer must know how to sharpen individual skills so that the business can grow.
Education Consultant
Being an education consultant allows you to work with software companies in order to help design educational programs for both entertainment and educational purposes. There is no required software experience needed. To be successful, all you need to contribute is the educational aspect of the job. Once developers have the necessary content they will then get to work.
Educational Coordinator
The educational coordinator or curriculum director is another role that does not require a classroom and is tasked with designing the curriculum and standards of a school district. This position is better suited for existing educators or administrators who want a nice change rather than a completely different educational specialty. The reason is because this role creates material to be used in the classroom. They then can coordinate with the teachers to ensure the material is providing effective learning or not.
Similar to a university level professor, this role requires a master of arts in teaching in order to be successful.
Professional Tutor
If all other choices don’t seem fitting for you, and you want to minimize the amount of teaching that you provide, then being a tutor would be the best alternate. Usually this role caters best to either the high school setting or university setting. The majority of the time a tutor is utilized when a student begins to struggle with their studies. The amount that you make could depend on your educational field.
When you combine a master of arts in teaching degree with experience, you are able to create a plan to obtain the best career possible for yourself. In today’s job market there are plenty of career opportunities available. All you have to do is make sure that your education and experience align perfectly with the role you are pursuing.
